10  Kibble Residence

Project Data: 3,500 sq. ft. New Single Family Dwelling
Location: Gold Mountain Ranch, California
Description: The Kibble residence, subtly situated below the adjacent ridge, is one of the first projects designed for the Taliesen Master-planned Community, Gold Mountain. The "Kiva" influence enforces the centrally focused family design, absorbing the Sierra Buttes, adjacent Feather River Canyon, and the highly-desired southwest exposure. The radiused spine links the proportionally hierarchical spaces together as they step down the topography, and acts as a sundial, evolving throughout the day and year. Great lengths were taken to allow the "dance of light" throughout the structure. The simple yet elegant palette of sand blasted CMU (modern stone), redwood, exposed "bent" fir beams at the vaulted volumes, Cor-ten steel, and glass affords an unadorned consistent yet rustic architectural language.
